Law hour funding
• Assoc. Dean at Western, former chair at Dal – Western law funds “Distinguished Speakers Committee”
• U of T – no such committee, for conferences will pay to fly ppl in
Faculty Council
• Add Jessica and Michelle to email list
• Task force on the Canadian Common Law degree – Federation of Law Societies of Canada – idea to dictate curriculum in law schools, provide list of competencies (may include required classes)
• Law deans and associate of law teachers opposing it
• Suggestion that students should oppose it, may talk to law students across the country
Law Library Hours
• 60 people have guaranteed personal attendance
• Meeting with Ann to discuss this, even pilot project
• Issue of longer hours for librarians – concerns by some
Alternative Careers
• Met with Rose and Dean and two LSS people appointed
• May create PT position for student, for internship opportunities during the year and throughout summer, looking at other schools too
2. VP Executive Report
• Implementing board overhaul in student lounge, putting up suggestion envelopes on LSS board and door
• Concern regarding Legal Who invoice – will be waiting on that to pay
• VP Finance Report
• Society funding application still available – November 28th deadline
• Only 9 societies contacted: Law students for choice, Asian Student Society, Canadians lawyers abroad, ELSS, SALAD, law hour, community outreach, journal, Jewish law student society, DBLSA –mass email regarding this
• Budget available and up on website; budgetary expenditure – Incorporation in default from March 1998 – March 2009 $277
• Coffee & Tea – largely self-service, French Press, volunteer to set it up schedule for this, sign up by this Friday – mass email, sign up will be on the LSS door
