EVENTS

Life as a law student can be hard - it's important to get out, socialize with your peers, and relieve some stress! Social events put on by the various LSS committees are a great way to do this. From coffeehouses to Law Ball, there are events that cater to all students. Check out below for more info!

Orientation Week

Each year, the 1Ls are welcomed to Halifax with O Week. While the academic O Week took place in early September, the social events were hosted the first weekend of October to ensure that all quarantines were safely completed. In the past, events have included semi-formal dances, boat cruises, and even surfing lessons.

Upper Year Dinners

In early Fall, second and third year students host first year students in their homes for a themed dinner, followed by an after-party at a local bar. Each dinner has a different theme, which leads to an amusing assortment of outfits at the after-party.

Board Games Night

Board Games Nights are held in the student lounge either once per semester or once per year. These nights also feature snacks and a cash bar. Enjoy some fun and friendly competition with your peers! This year, the Board Games Night was held off campus at the Board Room Game Cafe due to campus closures.

Pith & Substance

Pith & Substance is an annual semi-formal annual event held in second semester. First year sections compete in a video competition against one another for the big prize. The videos consist largely of sketch comedy, poking fun at the law school experience and various professors.

Also featured at the event is a Prof Auction, where professors auction off activities for students to take part in, followed by a dance. Guaranteed laughs and good times!

Law Ball

We all know law students are the best dressed of all students - and here's yet another chance to show it. Dust off that gown and send that suit to the dry cleaners for a formal evening with your classmates. Law Ball typically takes place in a hotel ballroom in the month of March.

Grad Gala

Shortly before or after graduation, the graduating class and their families are hosted for a final banquet-style dinner and dance with a catered meal and live band. The Social Committee awards a Class Ring to the winner of the Graduating Class Appreciation Award, a Schulich School of Law Faculty or Staff Member whom the graduating class wants to show their appreciation for.
